Well, Christmas was fun. We played lots of games (yay!) and had lots of fun with my in-laws. Ziggy is an adorable little dog- he is going to be perfect for Ella. I even saw her pick him up by his head and he didn’t care. He is like the Matt Hall of dogs. Pretty hilarious. Ella got a couple Barbies for Christmas which she LOVVVVES. I got a pretty necklace from Matt and a Waffle/sandwich/grill maker which rocks and Matt got some garden gnomes. I am at work today (for no good reason) and Matt and Ella are off sledding at home. All is good. Happy Boxing Day, you Canadians!
Now, I made a vow not to leave a blog up about zits, or bladder infections or about old peoples driving skills up for the holiday. So…
Happy Birthday Jesus and PEACE ON EARTH.
I really do think I must be channeling Rudolph’s spirit through my nose. It is nearly gross enough to be justified in calling a sick day so I don’t have to distract people by this zit.
Here is me on Friday, “Hey Matt, welcome home. Meet my new boyfriend. His name is BIG FUCKING ZIT.”
“Ella you’re so silly!”
“You want to know why I am so silly?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Because I am made of silly. Mom who makes us?”
“What?”
“Who makes people?”
“Well, some people think a god does, some people think time and evolution- some people think both. I really don’t know.”
“Well, God made bones first. And she cooked them and put skin on them, and then she put faces on them.”
I just think it is awesome Ella assumed before I even offered some ideas that a woman cooked us up. She just needed a name to the woman. Smart pants.
PS: Later, after that conversation I also learned God is a fairy.
Saturday: Along with all my regular mail I got a cute little postcard from the post office that has a poem on it about making sure walkways are snow-free and HAPPY HOLIDAYS of course!
Monday: Got another card from the post man. Maybe they accidentally gave me two? Also, weird that I got only junk mail today… Hmm…
Tuesday: Received one piece of junk mail. At closer look it has PLEASE SHOVEL scrawled across it… I shoveled the front steps.
Wednesday: Curiously waiting for the mail to come.
I meant to sit down this morning and do what I like to best on Monday. Complain. I woke up with a zit on the tip of my nose. I figured it was going to be shitty day. I mean come on, I pretty much look like Rudolph. Today ended up being really extraordinary. A day I don’t imagine I will forget anytime soon. So, no complaining for me today. Mondays don’t totally suck. Every once in a while one can push you back on a path you wanted to be on.
Last Thursday, Ella and me went to a Garden shop and got a tree. Preferably I would have rather went and cut one, but the snow has kind of hindered our weekends from venturing out of the city. We have never had a Christmas tree in all of the the three Christmases Ella has lived through, and when I was little the only kind I ever had was from a tree farm. I was HORRIFIED to find that in the back of the greenhouse was a hundred Christmas trees hanging upside down from hooks! It was gross- it was like picking which corpse was the most attractive to buy and prop up in my living room. Plus the freaking thing cost me fifty bucks. I have been meaning to take a picture of it, but it kind of reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. All of the pricklies (that is what they are called right?) are falling off and there are huge holes. Basically there is no way to take a good pic of it. Maybe it should be best remembered in memory. Anyways, next year, I hope we can kill our tree ourselves. Also, I really miss Matt. I want him home. It is cold and lonely without my husband… SO, I decided to put a Christmas song on my blog about how I feel. As usual, please try to imagine me singing this… hahaha.
I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There’s just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true…
All I want for Christmas
Is you…
I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you…
You baby
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
(So brightly everywhere)
And the sound of children’s
Laughter fills the air
(Laughter fills the air)
And everyone is singing
(oh yeah)
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won’t you bring me the one I really need
Won’t you please bring my baby to me
Oh I don’t want a lot for Christmas
This is all I’m asking for
(all I’m asking for)
I just want to see baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want him for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
all I want for Christmas is
You
And you, and you,
And you, and you
All I want for Christmas is you
When I was taking a bath tonight, I read an article about Cooking Greens (Collard greens, mustard greens etc.) in a free recipe magazine from a local gourmet grocery store. Here is how the article described Rapini/Broccoli Raab:
“A kissing cousin to the rapeseed plants used to make canola oil, this leafy version of broccoli has sweetness and a touch of bitter that begs for olive oil and garlic.”
I don’t know about you, but I am staying away from that pervy green.
I love Bill Clinton. I think he is adorable.
My M-I-L made a good point in my last posting. Another of my favorite things is our new dog Ziggy! I haven’t met him yet. He is in Kansas. From what I hear though, he’s gonna be great! It is going to be a surprise to Ella when Matt comes home and it should be really cute. Ziggy is a little poodle mix who is ‘wheaton’ colored. As Matt describes him, “he is really laid back…” which is a great quality for a little dog. I can’t wait to meet him. My MIL and FIL are watching him the next few weeks until Matt gets back up here. They have a been great in getting us Mr. Ziggy. Now the question is… should I get him that bow-tie I mention in the earlier blog… Hmmm…
